Rằm tháng 7 Tết Trung Nguyên và những quan niệm
Theo quan niệm dân gian, Rằm tháng 7 là Tết của người chết, nên vào ngày này người ta làm lễ bố thí cho người chết không nơi nương tựa. Trong quan niệm của nhà Phật, rằm tháng 7 gắn liền với lễ Vu Lan báo hiếu, với câu chuyện Hòa thượng Mục Kiền Liên cứu mẹ thoát kiếp ngạ quỷ. Đạo giáo châu Á cho rằng rằm tháng bảy là tiết Trung Nguyên, vào ngày này, các nhà tôn giáo lập hòn non bộ để tỏ lòng hiếu thảo với cha mẹ, nhờ đó mà giúp đỡ những vong linh đói khổ, cơ cực.
Trong cuốn Từ điển bách khoa về các làng xã cổ truyền Việt Nam (NXB Chính trị Quốc gia ấn hành, năm 2021), tác giả Bùi Xuân Đính cho rằng: “Lễ hội Rằm tháng Bảy của người Việt với sự giao thoa giữa quan niệm tín ngưỡng dân gian với các nghi lễ của Phật giáo, Đạo giáo, thể hiện ý tưởng về đạo hiếu, tính nhân văn rất cao, qua đó góp phần củng cố quan niệm sống nhân ái, hướng thiện, nhân đạo cho con người. của phe “ta” hay phe “địch”, biết ơn những người đã hy sinh vì nghĩa lớn.
Tuy nhiên, hiện nay nhiều người đang hiểu sai hoặc nhầm lẫn về ý nghĩa của ngày Rằm tháng 7 dẫn đến việc lạm dụng đốt vàng mã, tâm lý càng cho thì càng nhận nên có người đốt hết. xe vàng mã với những vật dụng cao cấp như ti vi, điện thoại, tủ lạnh, nhà cửa, ô tô, thậm chí cả “osin”… Thậm chí, ở một số địa phương, tục cúng cô hồn còn bị biến tướng thành tục “cướp lễ”, “giật cô hồn”. Những vấn đề này không chỉ gây tốn kém, lãng phí tiền của, ô nhiễm môi trường mà còn có nguy cơ làm biến dạng đời sống văn hóa của người Việt Nam.
Tết Trung Nguyên và các nghi lễ cúng bái
Theo PGS. GS.TSKH Bùi Xuân Đính, Tết Trung Nguyên thể hiện ở việc lập đàn tế, tục lệ này bắt đầu từ đời Đường, gắn với việc vua lệnh cho các chùa lập đàn tụng kinh cầu cứu. các tướng lĩnh và dân thường đã chết trong các cuộc chiến tranh, và an ủi gia đình các nạn nhân.
Ở nước ta, tục cầu siêu cho những linh hồn đã hy sinh vì đất nước cũng đã có từ lâu đời. Sách Đại Nam Thực Lục có đoạn nói về việc vua Minh Mạng lập đàn cầu siêu ở chùa Thiên Mụ vào ngày rằm tháng 7. như sau: “Đạo Phật lấy từ thiện làm ưu, giúp phúc lành, nay cử Bộ Lễ chuẩn bị lễ vật cho tiết Trung Nguyên lệnh cho chư Tăng tập trung tại chùa Thiên Mụ để đặt lục bình. trong 21 ngày để cứu rỗi hương hồn những vị quân tử của ta đã hy sinh vì việc nước, Đạo Phật tuy huyền bí, có thể không thấy rõ, nhưng khi nhớ đến các tướng sĩ, binh lính thì chúng ta sẽ không bao giờ quên được sự thành lập của đàn ăn chay này cũng là một ngụ ý của lòng thương xót [của ta]”.
Như vậy, ban đầu, tục lập mạn đà la để cầu cứu tướng sĩ là việc của triều đình, về sau được dân chúng làm theo, lâu dần trở thành một tục lệ dân gian. Mỗi khi trong nhà có người chết, họ lập tức cầu cứu. Các nhà sư tụng kinh để cầu mong sự cứu rỗi của người chết, và qua đó cũng cầu mong cho người sống được bình an. Qua ngày lễ này, chúng ta thấy rõ sự giao thoa giữa Đạo giáo và Phật giáo.
